Discouraging news for live music fans: A source very close to the action has confirmed to CMR that the plug has officially been pulled on the upcoming Midi Festival, which was to be held May 1-4 in Beijing. While the Ministry of Culture approved the festival, the Public Security Bureau nixed the plans, instead offering Midi a rescheduled slot during the October holiday, placing it in direct conflict with the Modern Sky Festival. Both festivals were set to be held in Beijing’s Haidian Park. The organisers of Modern Sky are now in talks with Midi to see if a compromise arrangement can be reached.
