This is awesome! Converse – one of few brands that seem to genuinely care about developing the creative industry they depend on to reach out to China’s youths – is hitting up Beijing with the Converse Rubber Tracks initiative. From Nov 30th to December 8th the Converse mobile studio will host a five-day series of workshops in 798.

Here’s what participants can look forward to:

Saturday, November 30, 7-10pm
Theme: Interactive music and visuals production
Description: Beijing-based artist and performer Liu Yiwei ofFAR Media Lab gives an easy-to-understand introduction for music lovers to the fundamentals of programming interactive audio-visual systems
*Participants must bring a computer with a built-in camera and headphones.

Sunday, December 1, 3-8pm
Theme: Vinyl Record Culture and Listening Event
Description: Wang Kai, owner of Beijing vinyl shop Strange Fruit in 33, will bring a selection of his personal favorites to play and discuss the ins and outs of vinyl culture

Friday, December 6, 7-10pm
Theme: Sound Circuit Experiments
Description: Electronic musician and synthesizer builderMeng Qi will hold a workshop teaching the fundamentals of building electronic noisemakers from simple circuits

Saturday, December 7, 3-6pm
Theme: Future Ancient DJ Techniques
Description: Beijing-based producers DJ Wordy and Soulspeak give a workshop on producing future music using the relatively “ancient” technology of the vinyl turntable and old-school MPC sample pad

Sunday, December 8, 3-6pm
Theme: Computer Music – Production and Recording
Description: Local producers Tunelee and Idmonn, aka Squareloud, give a basic tutorial on using a home computer for music production and recording
*Participants should bring their own computer, soundcard, and musical instrument or other recording sound source to get the most out of the workshop.
