We here at the Radar have been commentating on the nascent Chinese Music Festival scene.  Now we’ve been joined by Chinese Youth Trend consultancy China Youthology.  For some strange reason, the blog is blocked by the GFW (Great Fire Wall), so if you are behind this draconian entity, click

First off, we need to be a little more incredulous when it comes to attendance proclamations.  Zebra are claiming 60,000 per day – our independent sources reckon a maximum of 10,000.  Midi claim 25,000, people that went reckon 3-4,000/ day.

Secondly, the author makes some good points about whether the music at these festivals and the festivals themselves are too “edgy” for China.  We’ve been pushing the notion for years that Chinese kids are the same as their international peers, albeit with fewer direct influences and heritage.  Given time, they will open their hearts to every influence we can imagine, and more.  In the meantime, enjoy analysis of Chinese festivals from another source!
