And so, Beijing’s ascension into the annals as the city with the most music festivals in the world ever continues. We are moving into a complicated holiday period, due to the fact that the mid autumn holiday is snuggled up close to the October Golden Week. For those of you (like us) who are relatively confused, this means that Wednesday 22nd September is a holiday, with the 23rd and 24th also officially days off. To make up for this, you must work one day of the weekend before and one of the weekend after. The country will close down 1-7 October for the national vacation. Confused? We thought so…

Anyway, there are another 3 festivals hitting Beijing over that period. Check ’em out here:

  1. Music Funhill: organized jointly between the Fangshan local government and a local PR Company. They have brought in Li Hongjie of inMusic fame to help with the lineup. He in turn has enlisted the help of Ian Brown, the Concretes, Zero 7 and Mr. Hudson which will bring a certain eclecticism to the standard festival fodder. The festival is supported by Swarovski Elements, which is a strange tie up. It will be interesting to see how that one pans out (21-23 September)
  2. the Dreamvalley Festival 2010: will be held at the North Panlong Valley Cultural City between Beijing and Tianjin. You can get more details HERE (Chinese only). Travel required, featuring 唐朝乐队(Tang Chao), 许巍(xu wei),老狼(Lao lang),麦田守望者(The cir),龙宽(Long kuan), 超级市 (supermarket),简迷离(Gemini),宠物同谋(petconspiracy),未来脚踏车(Future bicycle),牛奶咖啡(milkcoffee),Gala,Rustic,风林火山,龙神道(longshendao),Emilie Simon, Ember Swift
  3. Pilot Records are taking over Chaoyang Park from Modern Sky during the October holiday and taking on Modern Sky by launching their World Cities festival on exactly the same date. Their lineup is slightly more rock/ emo/ punk than Modern Sky, and the May holiday has proved that a rock/ metal festival (Midi) can co-exist on the same dates as a more indie/ hipster one (Strawberry). It will be interesting to see if history can repeat itself. Artists appearing: 齐秦(Qi Qin)、郑钧(Zheng jun)、ROONEY、ILL NINO、老狼(Lao Lang)、反光镜(Reflector)、痛仰(Miserable Faith)、扭机(Twisted machine), MEN ( JD Samson and Johanna Fateman from LE TIGRE )
