Void Shanghai's Cameron Wilson summarizes the city's electronica scene in the past year...a little rough but still alive and kicking!

Cameron Wilson of Void Shanghai fame encapsulates a year in Shanghai for electronica here.

It has been a mixed year for Shanghai’s nightlife, with (ostensibly successful) institutions DKD, Attica, Park 97 and Mint going under, and the rise and domination of the Muse and MT Chains.  Of the back of one high profile, celebrity backed club opening in 2007, Muse has gone on to take over most of the best venues in town, including the Fuxing Park labyrinth that used to be Park 97.

With recent openings (the huge M1NT club) and Sin, there is obviously still hot money around looking for a home, but with the economic climate the way it is, expect a surplus of closings in 2009.  Consolidation is the name of the game!
