Manufactured Music: a cross cultural experiment?

US-based Nettark Management to manufacture a Mandarin-language pop princess in Chloe Wang

Some of the usual suspects have joined together in an attempt to bring the US to China. There have been plenty of examples of US artists coming to China, singing in Chinese, and trying to create a truly global hybrid.  Off the top of our heads:

Benji, Andrew Ballen (he of wet t-shirt competition and MC fame), Michael Learns to Rock (Mandarin song), Heather Schmid

Anyway, Nettwerk Management (once home to Avril Lavigne – her of the Mandarin choruses and the hugely ambitious but ultimately underwhelming 6 city stadium tour) have stepped it up a level, according to THIS article in China Daily.  They are trying to launch the career of ABC teenager Chloe Wang, setting her up with a luxury apartment in Bejing and a live-in Mandarin teacher.  She will sing in Chinese and English.

Crazy times.  For anyone that has tried to master the Mandarin language, we wonder if the group behind Chloe would have been better employing a singer who has more than 12 months learning to speak it.  See for yourself:

Manufactured pop princess Chloe Wang.  Will she be a success in China?
