Of the two big Japanese festivals, Summersonic certainly seems to have made it a priority to try and activate Chinese interest in their festival. Off the back of the MAO sponsored battle of the bands competition, both Shanghai and Beijing are hosting 2 different bands under the guise of “Summersonic Week”.
First up are upcoming US band Neon Trees playing early next week in Beijing and then Shanghai.
Then, hot on their heels come pop punkstrells Simple Plan. Both the Beijing and the Shanghai shows for both are being advertised as Summersonic week, as far as we’re aware with no input from the Japanese at all. Nice way to do free marketing.
