Longtime readers of this blog will probably know that we’re not often in the business of covering regional pop music. However, Mayday (五月天) is one of the biggest pop groups to come out of Taiwan since the turn of the last century. They’ve released 9 studio and countless live and tour albums, sold over a million records and won 4 Golden Melody (Taiwanese Grammy) awards. They’ve scheduled three dates in Shanghai at Hongkou Football Stadium (capacity 33,060) on October 4th, 5th and 7th. A quick glance around the major ticketing services yesterday told us that the 4th and 5th are completely sold out online, with limited tickets available for the show on the 7th. We wouldn’t be surprised if the third show will sell out as well – and 100,000 tickets sold, especially when the cheapest is still priced at RMB255 (USD$40 / EUR€31.50) is certainly impressive*.
