Holiday in China

We read this awesome quote on Tech Blog 86 last week pertaining to the seemingly random and chaotic allocation of public holiday here in China.

Who doesn’t want an extra day or two off? Sometimes, the Chinese play around with the holidays like an inexperienced driver on a manual transmission car. Sold that you can shift into higher gear all the time, the newbie yanks a 5-speed stick (in top gear) down — and engages reverse gear instead.

And so it is, that we sit here after 7 days straight work, having just walked down our empty street to get breakfast, as Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday become a bastard weekend plus one day public holiday.  Which of course, plays havoc with planning events. Shows this weekend in Shanghai, including the Subs and King Khan and BBQ were way under-attended, partly due to the impromptu holiday, partly of course, due to over-saturation of shows in China at the moment, because of the sheer volume of artists coming to China for the Expo (more on that later).

To that end, we wish you all a happy Dragon Boat Festival!
