Metal in Shanghai

Published by admin at 12:28 pm under music matters asia

There was a big metal night over at the new Mao Shanghai this weekend (yes, we know we still have to write about the amazingness of that new venue).  Metal fans the world over are pretty passionate about what they love. Thanks to Jake Newby over at Kungfuology, you can see what went down…. in Shanghai… last weekend.  The music isn’t our thing (the band is Six Shot by the way), but you HAVE to watch the video, especially the first 10 seconds.  Thanks Jake!

Yeah I agree, the music’s not really my thing to be honest (sorry Max), but I love the opening of that video.

Six Shot won’t be playing, but the next Hell United-related event will be on December 12th at the Weihai Lu Live Bar. It’ll feature Chaos Mind, October Capricorn and lots of jumping around.

Looks like a brutal pit. Here in Beijing, folks seem to be more harmonious, doing the “arm over the shoulder while standing in a circle” thing.

@Pete: that should be “ke tou”, bowing one’s head, how the Chinese call headbanging, a term originated from the way one bows towards a king or emperor…

btw, who is the singer of Six Shot? In 2004 I knew the metal guys in Shanghai quite well, but from the vid I can’t figure it out…

Cool. I’m looking forward to the “ke tou” at the black metal gig at 13 Club this weekend.

This is totally out of style and should be replaced with the Heavy Metal from the 70s. This market is very dead for Ke Tou. sorry as Simon would say……….. off ya go…

The Chinese market is extremely ripe for metal.

Kids are dedicated, the shows are packed and the local bands are numerous.

Even the gigs by foreign metal bands with huge door fees (Behemoth, Arch Enemy) are packed to the rafters.
